Mold

Mold is classified within the fungi kingdom and has been on our planet for millions of years. Fungi or Molds are microscopic pathogenic organisms that grow inside moist humid environmental conditions. These microscopic organisms reproduce and their spores become airborne. The air indoors and outdoors can carry mold spores causing the affected area to expand and to be inhaled which could lead to serious health complications.

Asbestos

Asbestos is a naturally-occurring substance made up of tiny fibers too small to be seen without powerful magnifiers. Because of its superior resistance to corrosion and heat, asbestos has been used for many years in the production of building materials such as floor tiles, vinyl, pipe insulation, wall texture, and much more.

Lead (Pb)

Lead is a natural chemical element or metal. It is also a pollutant that is regulated by many laws enforced by the EPA. Lead can be found in air, water, dirt, dust, paint, fossil fuels, building components such as ceramics, pipes and plumbing materials, toys, cosmetics and many other things. Our testing is primarily conducted on potential lead-based paint and building components within homes and commercial dwellings.

Fire, Smoke, & Soot

Fire damage occurs in hundreds of thousands of building types each year in the US. FEMA reported 1,345,500 fires in 2015 alone. All building structure types can be directly or indirectly impacted by fire due to soot and ash. NES responds to recovery needs following all types of fires. Wildfires are burning across the US continuously. Your air quality and health may be at risk. Smoke and soot are made up of hazardous particulate matter that can be inhaled into your lungs and bloodstream. Whether your home or building was the direct source of the fire or simply a victim of the fall-out, NES can identify soot particles too small to be seen by the naked eye. Our team of certified specialists is assisted by advanced technological equipment and accredited laboratories to bring a complete assessment of the test area

Bacterial, Sewage, & Wastewater

Sewage is wastewater produced by communities from domestic wastewater, industrial wastewater, and rain water. This wastewater contains fecal bacteria and is also referred to as black water. If black water comes in contact with any building surfaces, testing must occur to identify the presence of harmful contaminants and/or eliminate the presumption of risk. The most commonly tested fecal bacteria indicators are total coliforms, fecal coliforms, Escherichia coli, fecal streptococci, and enterococci.  Fecal bacteria can carry disease-causing pathogenic organisms such as Ecoli, Salmonella, and Shigella commonly found in sewage contamination.

Moisture Detection & Assessment

Most building materials absorb moisture and will retain it until it either evaporates or is remediated. Gravity, velocity, and pressure determine the movement of moisture throughout affected building materials. The capillary action or the ability of the moisture to migrate against the force of gravity is evaluated. The movement of air, suction, and the locations potential to accommodate evaporation are important considerations in the drying process.
